Phosphoinositides & Cell division.

Phosphoinositides (PIP) play essential roles in diverse cellular functions and in cancer metastasis. Their intracellular level is strictly regulated by specific PI kinases, phosphatases and phospholipases. PIPs are produced at cellular membranes during signalling events and influence a number of cellular processes including cell growth, proliferation and survival. Pi(4,5)P2 is directly implicated in ERM activation. Two major biosynthetic pathways lead to the production of Pi(4,5)P2: Phosphorylation of Pi(4)P by PI5K and dephosphorylation of Pi(3,4,5)P3 by PI3P phosphatase. We have identified several PIP kinase and phosphatase responsible of ERM regulation and we are currently investigating the role of these enzymes during cell division.
